Broccoli In Your Heart

this can be a quick dish using only one serving bowl and a pan, nice for the one who has to wash up!

2 cups broccoli florets and some stem

1/2 tsp cumin seeds

1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds

1-2 Tbl butter or olive oil

1 clove garlic -minced

juice from half a lemon or 2 Tbl

fresh ground pepper and sea salt

Add the cumin and fenugreek seeds to a pan, dry roast over a medium heat for 2-3 minutes until the seeds brown, set aside.

To the now empty pan add 1 inch of filtered water, bring to the boil and add the broccoli.  lid goes on, steam for a minute, stir well, steam for another minute, strain and place in a serving bowl.  the deal here is to just briefly steam the broccoli; it will brighten in color and remain mostly crisp.  if you are a total compost geek, reserve the strained liquid to pour into your pile, its full of nutrients... or drink it!

Place the same pan back on the stove (again) over medium heat, add the butter and garlic and saute just until the aroma of garlic begins to rise from the pan, 1-2 minutes.  add the roasted seeds and broccoli stirring well to incorporate and warm through.  mix in the lemon juice, removing from heat as you go and pour back into the serving bowl.  top with fresh pepper and salt to taste.  serve now or at room temperature.  a grating of fresh pecorino romano or parmesan adds a lovely touch.
